Controversy over the situation in Bama continues as residents and local leaders insist that the town is still under the control of Boko Haram sect.
It would be recalled that the fight between the Nigerian military and the insurgents for the seized Bama had continued for about a week. However this Tuesday the news appeared that  the town of Borno State was finally recaptured by the army.

Shortly after the reports had surfaced online, the Federal Government confirmed the information despite one Abu Zinnira, believed to be spokesman of the sect, claiming the opposite.
In a recent development Bama residents denied the government’s statements, Leadership reports.

The people of Bama under the aegis Bama Development Association (BDA), while briefing journalists, said that the insurgents still controlled the territory.
Moreover, the state committee on Displaced Persons from Bama also insisted that Bama residents were still trooping into Maiduguri yesterday.
Premium Times provides UPDATE that thousands of women and children die of hunger and thirst in Bama as the result of terrorists grip.

Mohammed Hassan, BDA Chairman, said:
“From Monday to date [Thursday], about 11 days now, Bama, the second largest Local Government Area in Borno, is under the custody and control of the dreaded Boko Haram sect; this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
Hassan claimed that the troops had not attempted to reclaim Bama since the takeover and save women and children.

“After 11 days of the invasion and takeover of Bama, no search and rescue operation has been conducted; no damage assessment has been made, even though the security and welfare of citizens is the fundamental and constructional obligation of any meaningful government.”
BDA urged the government to save Bama people from terrorists, as the citizens are suffering both physically and emotionally.
“Some of the women and children had drowned at River Yadzaram in the process of fleeing, while others were shot dead… Apart from those in captivity others who managed to cross the river were killed in the nearby villages, and we still have not been able to recover their corpses for proper burial.”

The chairman of Borno Committee on Displaced Persons, Jidda Shuwa confirmed the information in a separate conference adding that around 7,000 displaced people had arrived to Maiduguri.
“…Bama is still under the control of the Boko Haram terrorists. Though I am reliably aware of the military pushing towards Bama, but for now the town is still under the control of the terrorists.”

Meanwhile it was reported September 11 that Boko Haram fighters has put the capital of Borno State Maiduguri under siege. It had been previously gathered based on the intelligence that the militants planned advance to Maiduguri, which apparently became reality today.
Seizure of new towns and declaration of caliphate in the captured territories is part of the new tactics employed by the terrorists. Boko Haram are believed to have derived it from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Last month the sect leader Abubakar Shekau released the video in which he announced the overrun Gwoza part of caliphate.
Following this several other towns fell under the insurgents control. The advancement continues, with the military being engaged in fierce fights with Sheaku’s men.
